I updated Chrome after reading on techcrunch about the new version.

It’s great that you can sync your bookmarks now. Another nice thing is that an extension from Xmarks is available (last time I checked on the Xmarks site, they didn’t offer any integration with Chrome).

However, no Firebug yet. And Firebug Lite doesn’t count!

Firefox is like an old wife:

you have lots of things in common with her

she doesn’t move too much and is very slow

she’s not exactly the prettiest one out there

she takes a lot of your memory

sometimes she breaks down (and cries)

On the other hand, Chrome is like a young chick:

looks sexy

she is very active and fast

she doesn’t have any experience

I want to switch over to Chrome, but she is still too young :P

If you are looking for a way to determine the Google page rank for a group of websites, here’s a simple solution:

Download the page rank script and test it on your web server.

Note that the server is forced to query one of Google’s servers each time you call the page rank function. Because page rank doesn’t change very often (at least the one displayed by G’s toolbar) you can greatly improve performance by caching it. For example if you run a directory of websites you can set up a cron job to run and keep the page rank values updated.

Imagine the time it would take for a page with more than 400 URLs to display the page rank in real time (e.g. DirPedia).

Due to recent troubles with my laptop, I’ve turned to my desktop PC again and decided to try out Chrome since FireFox wasn’t installed. I got to the point where I was accustomed to the new browser interface quite well.

Then the bad stuff began:

some pages looked weird. Probably Webkit doesn’t read a particular CSS correctly. But bothoth IE and FF do.

a minor bug with the refresh. It only happened on a particular page (http://www.loose.utt.ro/~oose/). Basically you have to hit F5 2 times to reload the page. Tested on 2 Chromes, each on a separate machine.

pages loading slowly. Again, I only compared it with FireFox which didn’t had this problem.

And it looks like surfing incognito doesn’t work so well on Facebook or Googel docs!

… or why I use gmail for business and yahoo mail for fun.

1 – Detailed popup messages

While using an instant messenger (either Yahoo or Talk) you are informed each time you receive a new message. While Yahoo chose to give dumb messages such as X new emails, on Google you can read the title, sender and a short snippet of each new email.

2 – possibility to access 5 other pop3 accounts through one Gmail account

Google can connect to a POP3 account and download all your email into Gmail. Now you can have all your mail in a single location. You may also apply filters to incoming emails so you’ll know which address they were originally sent to.

Another option is to forward all incoming email to your Gmail address. This can be set up manually for each address. Oh yeah, and Yahoo does not offer any forward option.

3 – Better spam protection

I only remember getting one spam in the last month on Gmail. Keep in mind that Gmail gets my emails from another 5 different mailboxes.

4 – No splash page

Why do I have to be welcomed with a homepage whenever I log in into Yahoo Mail? Most of the time I want to check my inbox so why isn’t that displayed directly?
